Instagram’s New Algorithm is Like Facebook

Many people have taken to Twitter to express their thoughts about the new algorithm that Instagram has decided to roll out. Many of those thoughts are against the Facebook owned platform and include the hashtag #RIPInstagram. Many users liked the chronological order of post that came up. Users are upset that yet another social media platform has decided what to show them and how often. On the other hand, business owners are worried that their posts will not be seen as they might get trampled by other companies that are bigger and more popular. As always, the social media giant expresses that they are doing this with the user in mind.

“The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post. As we begin, we’re focusing on optimizing the order — all the posts will still be there, just in a different order.” – Instagram

You probably noticed that a lot of the accounts you follow started posting things along the nature of “Turn Me On” or “turn on notifications” accompanied by the hashtag #turnmeon. That’s because Instagram has given us the option to opt into notifications, which will give followers a notification of a post.

For now, as users, all we can do is figure out a way to make the algorithm work for us instead of against us. It’s going to take some trial and error to get Instagram’s new algorithm right, the best we can do is make sure we post quality content that is in focus with great lighting. Once you perfect the shot, then incorporate some good hashtags to help get your content discovered. It may take some time, but once you get this right, Instagram’s algorithm will help get your content seen.
